The Joey M. Spano MSU Varsity S Club Graduate Endowed Fellowship has been created to assist MSU student-athletes in advancing their knowledge and transforming their lives in their respective quest for excellence.
Joey Spano was the first female President of the Varsity S Club after earning varsity letters in three sports; women’s basketball, softball, and field hockey. After finishing her presidency, the Varsity S Board of Directors honored Ms. Spano by establishing the Joey M. Spano Graduate Endowed Fellowship. The purpose of the endowment is to provide financial support for Spartan letter winners who want to pursue a graduate degree at Michigan State University. Student-athletes do not need to have completed their eligibility at the University but must be graduates of the University and have earned a Varsity letter in their sport.
The Fellowship will be based on academic success and MSU volunteerism, community involvement, and service. This scholarship is not based on financial need or athletic accomplishments. Applications are reviewed by a committee of five who have all earned their Varsity letters and completed degrees at Michigan State University.
Recipients will be notified late Spring Semester. The fellowship will be applied next academic year. Recipients can select to receive the funds in one semester (either Fall or Spring) or split between Fall and Spring semesters. Recipients will be invited to attend the annual Varsity S Club Celebration Weekend in September.
The application form will be available in February.
