University Outreach and Engagement recognizes and shines a light on exemplary high-quality community-engaged scholarship and outreach activities through its awards programs. MSU’s awards are a statement that this university deeply values, encourages, and celebrates the accomplishments of its faculty, staff, students, and partners in community engagement.
Community Engagement Scholarship Award
Recognizing highly engaged community-based research, creative activity, teaching, and service collaborations that positively impact both the community and scholarship.
Michigan State University invites nominations for the Community Engagement Scholarship Award (CESA), conferred on one scholar and community partner in recognition of their exemplary engaged partnership that positively impacts both the community and scholarship. Nominations for CESA may be initiated by students, faculty, administrators, or community partners, and self-nominations are welcome.
CESA includes a stipend of $5,000, shared equally by the designated MSU representative(s) and the designated community organization(s). Co-recipients will be recognized at the university's annual Awards Convocation on Wednesday, May 1, 2024.
Five CESA applicants who are selected as finalists in each of the following categories will automatically be named recipients of the MSU Distinguished Partnership Awards (DPA):
- Community-engaged research
- Community-engaged creative activity
- Community-engaged teaching
- Community-engaged service

International community-engaged scholarship
DPA recipients receive a stipend of $1,500, shared between the MSU representative(s) and the designated organization(s). They will be recognized at the MSU Outreach and Engagement Awards Ceremony on Thursday, March 21, 2024.

Graduate Student Award for Community Engagement Scholarship
Recognizing and honoring students for exemplary community-engaged scholarship during their years of graduate study.
Michigan State University invites nominations for the Graduate Student Award for Community Engagement Scholarship, conferred upon up to four graduate or graduate professional students each year for outstanding community-engaged scholarship.
Nominations should be initiated and completed by students. Faculty, administrators, community partners, or members of the general public are encouraged to assist the student in their application.
The recipients will receive a plaque to memorialize their accomplishment and a stipend of $750. The award recipients will be formally recognized at the annual MSU Outreach and Engagement Awards Ceremony.

Michigan State University invites nominations for the Graduate Student Award for Science Communication and Outreach, conferred in recognition of the exemplary translation and communication of scholarly ideas, research findings, and advancements in all academic disciplines to the general public by a graduate or graduate professional student.
Nominations should be initiated and completed by students. Faculty, administrators, community partners, or members of the general public are encouraged to assist the student in their application.
One student will be selected as the recipient of the Graduate Student Award for Science Communication and Outreach annually. The award recipient will receive a plaque to memorialize the accomplishment and a $750 stipend. The recipient will be formally recognized at the annual MSU Outreach and Engagement Awards Ceremony.

Institutional Champion Award for Community Engagement Scholarship
Recognizing and honoring individuals and groups for leadership in institutionalizing community-engaged scholarship and university outreach at Michigan State University.Michigan State University invites nominations for the Institutional Champion Award for Community Engagement Scholarship, conferred in recognition of exemplary efforts by a university leader, faculty member, faculty team, or initiative to systemically encourage, nurture, and support scholarly community engagement by faculty, staff, and students.
Nominations may be initiated by university leaders, faculty, staff, students, and community partners, and self-nominations are welcome.
One nominee will be selected as the recipient of the Institutional Champion Award for Community Engagement Scholarship each year and will receive a plaque to memorialize the accomplishment and a $1,000 stipend. The award recipient will be formally recognized at the annual MSU Outreach and Engagement Awards Ceremony.
