Call for Applications for the 2019-2020 SUTL Graduate Fellows Program

Graduate students interested in STEM education research should consider applying for the LBC Scholarship of Undergraduate Teaching & Learning (SUTL) Fellowship Program. Lyman Briggs College has long been a leader in STEM and interdisciplinary education innovation and many LBC faculty conduct research on teaching and learning to advance understanding of how people learn, what factors contribute to a positive learning environment, and how curricular and course innovation affect student learning and attitudes. The LBC SUTL Graduate Fellowship Program helps LBC faculty conduct this important research while providing the next generation of educators opportunities to develop into amazing teacher-scholars. Learn more about the LBC SUTL Program, including the calls for 2019-2020 Fellows and Mentors, here: https://grad.msu.edu/sutl.

Graduate students selected for this full-year program (12 month) will work with a LBC faculty member on a new or existing disciplinary‐based education research (DBER), scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL), or action research (AR) project. In addition to the mentored DBER/SoTL/AR project, Fellows will participate in bi-weekly activities with other fellowship recipients. These activities will include: (1) sharing in-progress SUTL research with other Fellows; (2) meeting faculty members, outside speakers, and other students to discuss topics related to undergraduate education; (3) participating in professional development activities and workshops. Each SUTL Fellow will receive $5000 to support the time they spend investing in their SUTL project work and Fellows’ meetings.

Eligible MSU graduate students must be enrolled full-time in a program leading to a terminal (PhD) degree in STEM, history, philosophy, sociology or HPS of Science, or other appropriate field, be in good academic standing, be making progress toward their degree, and have the agreement of their adviser/major professor and department chair.

Applications must be received by March 25, 2019
