Sam Gould is pursuing his diverse musical interests at Michigan State University in the doctor of musical arts percussion
performance program. He is a graduate fellow with the Residential College in Arts & Humanities, a program that allows
him to work with world music genres, particularly traditional music of Zimbabwe. He hopes to continue this study in the
future, teaching full-time and performing music. His recent research projects include “The Issues of Concertizing
Participatory Music in the University,” “Examining the Influence of Non-Western Music on Western Art Music,” and “An
Exploration of Repertoire for the Speaking Percussionist.” He is studying with faculty mentor Joanna Bosse, PhD. Prior
to coming to MSU, Sam received a BA from Grand Valley State University and an MA in Western Michigan University, both
    in percussion performance.
