When we have lived through a trauma or traumatic grief event, it is natural to have moments when something in our current experience reminds us of our past trauma. In these moments of remembering, we may powerfully re-experience the trauma in our physical bodies, emotions, thoughts, and reactions. Understanding what is happening to you and having skills to help yourself move through these difficult moments can help you regain your sense of balance and perspective.
While trauma reminders may continue to happen over time, we can build capacity to reduce the impact of these challenging moments when they occur. We can also learn how to actively support others when they have a trauma reminder or are experiencing a trauma response.
In this program, students will:
- Learn about basic trauma responses.
- Understand the psychological process behind trauma reminders.
- Notice stress response activation and have a plan to help yourself through moments of trauma.
- Incorporate the Spartan Resilience 6-word framework for Resilience to provide you with scaffolding to move through tough moments.
- Increase capacity to name and process difficult emotions to allow yourself to heal and grow.
