The Office of Student and Community Relations (SCR) is community-focused and designed to facilitate progress and connectivity in town-gown relationships. The staff in the office serve as conduits to the greater East Lansing community as well as advocates for students and community members alike. Collaborative activity and positive relationship building are hallmarks of success.
The Graduate Assistant for Student and Community Relations works directly within the Division of Student Life and Engagement and indirectly with MSU Government Relations. The GA will be supervised by the Community Relations Coordinator and will directly supervise a team of undergraduate students involved in the Spartan Ambassador Internship Program (SAIP). The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent leadership skills, creativity, problem solving skills, and initiative.
Specific job responsibilities are as follows:

Directly supervise a team of 8-12 undergraduate Spartan Ambassadors responsible for community engagement and support

Build intentional relationships, provide working support and feedback on performance, manage time sheets and payroll submissions, provide developmental opportunities for continuous learning

Facilitate Fall and ongoing training for Spartan Ambassador interns

Plan and participate in various events or work teams that support SCR including but not limited to:

MSUvote
-
Landlord and Property Management Summits
-
MSU Housing Fair
-
Celebrations Committee
-
Build intentional relationships with members of the MSU and East Lansing communities

Develop and implement assessment and evaluation strategies for community events and student development
-
Oversee and/or create various marketing materials aimed at providing information to off-campus students
- Other duties as assigned
The Graduate Assistant for Student and Community Relations is a half-time GA; equivalent to 20 hours per week for the fall and spring semesters. A two-year commitment to the position is preferred. Start date for this position will be August 15, 2022.
Remuneration is equivalent to half-time Graduate Assistantships across campus which include tuition remission, health insurance, and a stipend (paid bi-weekly) over the course of the 9-month academic year.
