ITA Program Has Space in FS19 Courses

Attention international graduate students who need additional language support in order to meet the university oral proficiency requirement for teaching assistants. The ITA Program offers the following pre-service ITA support courses this semester:

AAE 451 – Oral Communication for ITAs

This course is designed for ITAs who have not yet passed the MSU Speaking Test and who would benefit from additional oral language instruction, with special emphasis on the development of smooth, fluent speech and the pronunciation of English vowels, consonants, and other global features of pronunciation.
Meets TThF 3:00-4:20 for 10 weeks, tuition calculated at the rate of 3 credits

AAE 452 – Language of the American Classroom for ITAs

This course is designed for ITAs who have not yet passed the MSU Speaking Test and who would benefit from additional practice in the specific language of classroom instruction, with special emphasis on presenting information, student/teacher interaction, and the role of stress, intonation, pausing, and phrasing in effective classroom communication.
Meets TThF 12:40-2:00 for 10 weeks, tuition calculated at the rate of 3 credits

In addition, the ITA Program offers an in-service seminar course for ITAs who have already met the university oral proficiency requirement for teaching assistants but who would benefit from additional language and pedagogy support concurrent with their teaching assignments.  

AAE 453 - Support for In-Service ITA Teaching

This seminar-style course is designed for ITAs who have already met the university English proficiency requirement for international teaching assistants but who seek additional language and pedagogy support concurrent with their teaching assignment. Students will engage in discussion and reflection, be observed teaching, and receive feedback from the instructor.
Meets 1.5 hours 1 evening per week for 10 weeks, tuition calculated at the rate of 1 credit

This course is offered depending on interest and enrollment, but is currently expected to be offered during Spring Semester. Any interested students should contact the ITA Program Coordinator (TAprogram@elc.msu.edu) now about interest in this course to assist with planning for Spring Semester.
