Inclusive Excellence in the STEM Teaching & Learning Facility: Three Opportunities

Faculty, Academic Staff, and Graduate Students

Through a Creating Inclusive Excellence Grant from MSU, the new STEM Teaching & Learning Facility is offering three unique opportunities for faculty, staff, and graduate students to learn and work together to build inclusive excellence in our teaching and learning spaces. Inclusive excellence seeks out and intentionally makes space for diverse perspectives.

Inclusive Excellence Faculty/Staff Mentors.

We seek two staff or faculty with expertise in inclusion, DEI and/or belonging to observe informal and formal instructional space use, develop resources, and engage with instructors. Mentors will develop an inclusive evaluation tool for use in formal instructional spaces and a guide to inclusive management of informal spaces. Mentors are also expected to present their work toinstructors and at an end of year symposium. Funds up to $4000 are available per mentor. Runs Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 - anticipated effort commensurate with funding. Application is live and available here - deadline is Aug. 25, 2022. Inclusive Excellence Graduate Fellows.

We seek two graduate students with interest in inclusion and instruction. Graduate students will engage students in focus groups or informal interviews and conduct a systematic literature review on inclusion in university spaces. Graduate Fellows are also expected to assist the Inclusive Excellence Mentors with their work as needed. A stipend of $1500 per graduate student is available. Runs Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 - anticipated effort commensurate with funding. Application is live and available here - deadline is Aug. 25, 2022. Inclusive Excellence Faculty Teams.

We seek up to 15 pairs of instructional faculty/staff teaching STEM or STEM-adjacent courses. Faculty teams will use an inclusive evaluation tool in teaching observations and come together to discuss their observations and challenges. Runs Spring 2023. Funds are available to facilitate faculty engagement. More details and an application will be available in mid-Fall 2022.
