Graduate Students
The Center for Gender in Global Context is hiring a research assistant (RA). This is a paid position requiring a commitment of 10-15 hours per week, April to June of 2025. Work will be completed in office and can be scheduled around your course schedule. Students must be enrolled at Michigan State University. Graduate students are preferred, but undergraduate students may also apply.
A successful GenCen RA will possess the following qualities:
- Experience with developing and organizing databases of literature and/or primary documents
- Able to work without assistance in Microsoft Office Suite (including Outlook and Teams) and comfortable with computer navigation and file management
- Independent worker with initiative and willingness to take responsibility for managing all details of a research project from beginning to end
- Strong communication skills necessary to organize and collaborate with a research team
- Demonstrable research interest in African studies, gender, and/or women’s issues
Responsibilities:
- Communicate and help manage meetings with project collaborators
- Conduct literature searches online
- Email and potentially meet with GenCen’s African contacts to discuss their university’s gender policies and programs
- Develop a database of gender policies at higher education institutions and universities across Africa, with particular attention to policies that support survivors of sexual harassment or violence
- Organize all materials in an accessible, online format
