Description

The ILPC Graduate Assistant will work alongside the ILPC Director and Program Administrator to support the operations of the Center. Responsibilities may vary depending on need, however a sampling of responsibilities is listed below. Students who apply for this position should be committed to student success and community building, and should also demonstrate strengths in organization, self-direction, and creative problem solving.

General responsibilities

  • Assist the ILPC Director and Program Administrator in all of their duties
    • Attend all ILPC regular staff meetings and record and share minutes
    • Assist with arrangements for programming and events
  • Coordinate Monthly Speakers for ILPC Student Lunches
    • Work with Director, Program Coordinator, and NALSA (Native American LawStudents Association) to generate topics for monthly lunches
    • Advertise events using email, social media, and flyers
    • Order lunch for attendees
    • Assist with running lunch speaker presentations virtually and/or in-person
  • Assist with publicity, communications, and community outreach and engagement
    • Answer emails, referring to the Director or Program Administrator as needed
    • Maintain ILPC website and listserv, updating as necessary
    • Create ILPC publicity materials for events and newsworthy updates
    • Maintain social media presence
    • Attend ILPC events
    • Visit classes to promote Indigenous Law Certificate
  • Provide logistical support for planning and hosting the annual ILPC conference. Duties may vary, but in general, the ILPC graduate assistant will help the ILPC Director and Program Administrator with the following responsibilities:
    • Communicate with conference speakers and attendees regarding conference details, including conference itinerary, panel topics, A/V needs, hotel shuttle, and presenter airfare and lodging, and ground transportation needs
    • Assist with call for artwork for annual ILPC conference poster
    • Create conference publicity materials and share on ILPC website, social media, and by email
    • Coordinate with caterers and restaurants for conference receptions and meals for speakers and attendees
    • Liaise with MSU College of Law event planning, IT support, communications, accounting, and facilities management as needed
    • Purchase culturally appropriate gifts for conference speakers
    • Provide planning assistance for conference room reservation, layout, A/V equipment, decorations, registration table, attendee tote bags, and marketing materials
    • Coordinate with vendors for sale of artwork and apparel at conference site
    • Coordinate with NALSA e-board for NALSA engagement at annual ILPC conference
  • Maintain ILPC office
    • Hold regular ILPC office hours
    • Maintain a clean and efficient office, along with equipment
    • Notify the ILPC Program Administrator when supplies are needed
