General Background Information

The McHenry Global Public Service Fellows Program aims to achieve Ambassador Donald F. McHenry's (President Carter's Ambassador to the UN and Georgetown University Professor Emeritus) vision of strengthening Georgetown University School of Foreign Service's capacity to recruit exceptional graduate students from all communities within the US and around the world.  The program seeks students committed to careers in transformational global public service leadership and to new, innovative, outside the box approaches, across traditional disciplines, to conceptualizing and resolving current and yet to emerge global public service challenges.

Complementing their School of Foreign Service normal master’s degree requirements, the program will provide a mandatory core course to develop the participants' intellectual capacity to address global public service challenges holistically. It will refine their strategic thinking skills, analytic writing ability, oral briefing techniques, leadership skills, and interpersonal skills for transformational global public service effectiveness. Activities will be arranged to enhance the cohort experience and facilitate the cohort’s interaction with other SFS graduate students, faculty members, and senior practitioners in multiple fields of expertise. Assistance with internships and networking, together with counseling on career employment search, will be provided. Five McHenry fellows will be selected each year and will receive a scholarship covering full tuition and mandatory fees for two years for any of the School of Foreign Service's eight master’s degree tracks (listed below) in which they enroll. Our goal is to welcome the first cohort of five McHenry Fellows in the fall of 2020.
