Call for Papers: Black Doctoral Network Conference

6th Annual Black Doctoral Network Conference

“Theory, Knowledge, and Practice”

CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA

OCTOBER 25 – 27, 2018

The Black Doctoral Network Conference Committee is inviting abstract submissions for the 2018 conference themed “Theory, Knowledge, and Practice” This year’s conference addresses the (im)possibilities of connecting applied and academic research, the gaps among intellectualism, political consciousness, and activism, as well as potentials of academic work to have positive transformative effects on society. “Theory, Knowledge, and Practice” encourages attendees to consider how we can reconcile theory and practice within our scholarship and to think critically about the social contributions of academic knowledge. The theme of the annual meeting asks: What are the existing opportunities, envisioned potentials, and limitations of applying academic work to the “real world”? How can theoretically-informed research also inform public knowledge and direct social action? Papers that will reflect on this theme are especially encouraged, but we accept submissions on any topic. The Conference will be an interdisciplinary event that brings together academics and professionals from the social sciences, STEM, and humanities to address how we can positively impact and inform each other’s work and engage with our communities. Submission of abstracts from graduate and doctoral students, recent Ph.D. graduates and academic professionals across disciplines are welcome.
