Call for Applications: HFC Physician Scientist Post-Doctoral Fellowship Program 2025

ATTENTION:

Doctoral Students, Postdocs

Henry Ford Cancer (HFC) invites applications for a one- or two-year clinical postdoctoral fellowship to start in 2025. Early-career physician scientists will have the opportunity to share in Henry Ford Health’s (HFH) research mission.

Postdoctoral Fellows work on 1-year assignments, with an optional 2nd year, under the mentorship of HFC investigators doing clinical, population or translational research in brain, breast, colon, head & neck, lung, ovarian, pancreas, prostate, skin, and other cancers. The HFC research program encompasses physicians and scientists working in the departments of Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology, and various surgical and cancer related specialties. Candidates will be given the opportunity to find a mentor and project that suits their clinical interests and career goals. In addition to clinicians and clinical scientists developing cutting edge surgical techniques and cancer treatment regimens for a large and diverse patient population, mentoring is also provided by world-class cancer research faculty specializing in cancer biology, chemistry, genetics, immunology, pathology, radiation physics, as well as public health researchers including epidemiologists, biostatisticians, health behavior scientists, psychologists, and sociologists.

We seek talented and motivated candidates who wish to play a leading role on projects focused on cancer research. The fellowship offers opportunities for multi-disciplinary collaborations and professional development including preparation of scientific manuscripts, presentation at scientific conferences and participation in research grant proposal writing. Applicants who successfully complete the 1st year of their fellowship may pursue a 2nd year which would focus more on grant writing and applying for independent funding.

At the start of the program, candidates must hold an MD or equivalent clinical degree with an intended career focus in cancer research. Medical students in their final year, as well as current clinical trainees, are encouraged to apply. The program is intended for early career physicians who are no more than five years post completing their final clinical training program. Strong analytic skills and communication skills with experience in scientific writing is strongly encouraged. Experience in research design and/or PhD experience is viewed favorably. The goal of a successful applicant should be to become an independent physician scientist.

Please send a cover letter, CV, research statement, example of scientific writing and contact information for 2 professional references to Kathy Gusas at HFCIResearch@hfhs.org. The application due date is Thursday, May 1, 2025.

Awardees will be notified at the end of May 2025 with funding to start as early as July 1, 2025. Henry Ford Hospital is in midtown Detroit, MI and is one of the top cancer hospitals in the United States with over 15,000 cancer-related visits a year.
