A Graduate Student Workshop on Writing Proposals for International Dissertation Research Grants: Focus on SSRC-ACLS IDRF, Spring Title VI DDRA, & Other 2020 Deadlines

A two-hour Workshop (open to all MSU grad students – no preregistration)

 Note: The SSRC International Dissertation Research Fellowship (IDRF) deadline is Nov 7.   DDRA expects spring 2020 deadline.

This two-hour workshop is open to all students gratis. These workshops are a substitute for the International Social Science Research Seminar normally offered each fall semester.

Open to all MSU graduate students - US and foreign –planning to write proposals for funding dissertation or pre-dissertation research abroad for deadlines in 2019 or 2020 - especially the Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Abroad, NSF, SSRC-IDRF, and Ford Minority Fellowships

  • Finding sources of funding for pre-dissertation and dissertation research using MSU Library resources and the worldwide web
  • Deadlines for application in 2019-2020
  • Proposal strategies: Understanding the proposal process in national competitions and maximizing your chances for success
  • “What makes a winning proposal?”: Comments by MSU faculty reviewers  who served on national reviewing panels and grad students who have won these nationally competitive awards
