Slavery to FreedomThe Dr. William G. Anderson Lecture Series: Slavery to Freedom gives members of the mid-Michigan community opportunities to interact with multicultural leaders from education, business, industry, entertainment and government. For 20 years, this series has featured living icons of the American civil rights movement.

April Ryan is a White House Correspondent, CNN Political Analyst and a part of the Washington Bureau Radio Networks. In addition, she is the author of books “The Presidency in Black and White,” and “At Mama’s Knee: Mothers And Race In Black And White” and most recently “Under Fire. In 2019, she became an honorary member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. April Ryan has a unique vantage point as the only black female reporter covering urban issues from the White House – a position she has held since the Clinton era. She was the recipient of the  2017 National Association of Black Journalist’s “Journalist of the Year”, and a Terker Fellow with the George Washington University School of Media and Public Aff airs. She has served on the board of the prestigious White House Correspondents Association. She is one of only three African Americans in the Association’s over 100-year history to serve on its board. She is also an esteemed member of the National Press Club.
