Graduate Program Directors/Assistants who are new to their position (including those who are in their 2nd year who were not able to attend last year’s orientation)

This orientation is for graduate program directors/assistants who are new to their position (including those who are in their 2nd year who were not able to attend last year’s orientation). It will provide an introduction to responsibilities of the role of the graduate program director, and information about the unique opportunities and challenges of the role through the views of current graduate program directors. We will highlight issues that typically come to the Graduate School office, with interactive discussions about how they might be handled at the department level, and how disciplinary differences impact the choices and options you might have in dealing with them. Additional topics of focus will include: graduate student health and wellness resources and support on campus, professional development opportunities for students and faculty, and Graduate School funding mechanisms for students and programs.

The morning will begin with a networking breakfast where you can get to know your colleagues and the staff in the Graduate School.
