Background
This fellowship will allow a graduate student to gain research and scholarship experience by working on a large National Institutes of Health-funded study, 50K4Life (Dr. Jennifer Salinas, Principal Investigator, University of Texas at El Paso; https://reporter.nih.gov/project-details/10929295).
This study implements evidence-based behavioral interventions to increase walking engagement among school employees. Dr. Susan Buchholz (Co-Investigator on the study) will supervise the graduate student.
The graduate student will work on program evaluation and other aspects of the study, potentially including literature reviews and manuscript development. They will also attend study meetings. This fellowship can be done remotely and requires a commitment of 10 hours per week with the College of Nursing faculty.
Eligibility
- MSU graduate student in good standing who will be enrolled in the Fall of 2026.
- Graduate student interested in health promotion, physical activity, and mHealth, involving the implementation of a large research trial.
- Spanish fluency is a plus.

The submission deadline is September 25, 2026. Applicants will be reviewed after September 25 until an applicant is selected.
Funding of the Award
The award amount for October 1, 2026, to March 31, 2026 is $30/hour (10 hours/week). This is a stipend only and does not cover tuition or health insurance.
