Graduate students prepare for roles in academia, public, private, and nonprofit sectors. In the process, they develop multiple transferable skills (research, problem-solving, teaching, communication, evaluation) and the capacity to become leaders that transform local and global communities.
The GREAT Fellowship is for graduate students who recognize the value of teaching to develop community with peers and mentors as leaders in educational spaces in their chosen career path.
The BioSci-GREAT Collaborative (B-GREAT)
For AY 2026-2027 we have developed a special collaboration with the Biological Sciences Program (“BioSci”) and are recruiting 2 Fellows from any discipline or college to join the BioSci-GREAT collaborative group (“B-GREAT”)!
The B-GREAT collaborative centers on the BioSci Student Co-Creators in Education Program. In this program, BS200 undergraduate students and student peer leaders (the BS200 Undergraduate Learning Assistants) work together with BioSci faculty and course coordinators to create curriculum and professional development.

- We are looking for B-GREAT Fellows who have interest or experiences in areas including (but not limited to): Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), curriculum development OR experience with students-as-partners OR experience with large lecture OR science/biology courses OR deep qualitative research experiences.
- There is an opportunity to connect to prior interests, experiences, or desired growth areas by allowing B-GREAT Fellows flexibility in project development within the parameters of BioSci and student-as-cocreators-in-education.
Program details and application
- Year-long cohort program open to doctoral students from all disciplines
- Fellows are expected to commit ~10-12 hours a month, including bi-weekly GREAT Fellows meetings/workshops, preparations (e.g., readings, reflections, design and data analysis work), periodic participation in the BS200 Teaching Team meetings, as appropriate for the project.
- Fellows will receive $5000 ($2500 paid each semester) and may use a small fraction to help support project expenses and/or travel to a conference to share their findings.
- Fellows will disseminate their work in reports, conferences, or publications.
- Share their project at the Teaching Cohort Fellowship Showcase and other venues.
- Applicants should be enrolled full-time (AY 2026-27) in a program leading to a PhD and making progress on their degrees, have previous teaching experience, and be in good academic standing.
