The Asian Pacific American Studies Program seeks a full-time graduate student to work as the Program Coordinator for the 2026-2027 Academic Year. 

The Program Coordinator holds a 25% time research assistantship. It is expected that the position will take approximately 10 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters, although there is flexibility in scheduling (with more hours possible in some weeks and fewer in others based on the program’s and the student’s schedule). 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist Program Director with outreach to prospective minor students and support of current students completing the Minors in APA Studies
  • Assist Program Director with initiatives such as program curriculum review
  • Assist Program Director with clerical and other office management duties
  • Train and supervise the undergraduate program assistants including web maintenance, events, and publicity
  • Attend regular meetings with program assistants, faculty and staff
  • Engage in outreach to students, advisers, departments and colleges including in-person Sparticipation, Green & White Days, “Past, Present and Future” events, etc.
  • Provide support for APA Studies events such as the program’s annual symposium, workshops and lectures.

Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • Full-time enrollment with good academic standing in a graduate program at MSU
  • Academic experience in or understanding of Asian Pacific American Studies (preferred) or Ethnic Studies broadly defined (required)
  • Interest in academic program management, curricular development, and undergraduate student education
  • Ability to work independently, manage varied projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines effectively
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, undergraduate students and community members, maintaining strong relationships and lines of communication
  • Excellent communication skills, including maintaining communication with director and undergraduate students, in-person and written outreach to current and prospective minor students.
