This session is a prerequisite for the November 17 session.

This workshop will discuss what is referred to as detrimental research practices (DRPs) and best practices for their avoidance. DRPs are behaviors that threaten the real or perceived integrity of research and scholarship, and researchers/scholars without necessarily rising to the level of fabrication, falsification, or plagiarism, which are considered formal research misconduct. DRPs can undermine trust in science, mislead the research community, and negatively impact public confidence in research outcomes.

The session will also cover teamwork and collaboration. The term "collaboration" in academic research is usually thought to mean an equal partnership between at least two academic faculty members who are pursuing mutually interesting and beneficial research or scholarly activities. Qualities of effective team members and the organization of productive collaborations will be discussed.

Finally, research is an increasingly complex endeavor, and one rarely works in isolation. This session will help you understand and appreciate what a ‘conflict of interest’ is, that they occur in many situations and are manageable. Strategies to resolve conflicts of interest will be presented.

Note: These sessions are very popular and fill quickly. If you go to register and there is no link, the session is full. If you registered and can no longer attend, please cancel your registration.
