Graduate School Office of Well-Being

Welcome, Graduate and Professional Students!

Whether you're pursuing a master's, doctoral, or professional degree, graduate school can be one of the most exciting and challenging experiences you undertake. Formerly known as the office of Graduate Student Life & Wellness, the Graduate School Office of Well-Being (GROW) serves as a handbook to your well-being at MSU to help you navigate your way.

“Well-being” and “wellness” can be reduced to buzzwords easily these days, but they can also describe the kind of foundation that is crucial for success academically, professionally, and personally. GROW’s mission is to provide opportunities to build skills that help you address the challenges of graduate school that impact your well-being. We will help you find tools, resources, and programs to help you not just survive but actually thrive while achieving your academic and professional goals.

Upcoming Events

GROW is happy to offer the following graduate student success workshop series this fall.

Time on Your Terms: Aligning Priorities with Purpose on Thursday, September 4, 3:30-5:00pm. Grad school can feel like a constant juggling act, but your time should serve your goals, not just your deadlines. In this interactive workshop, you'll learn practical strategies for managing your time with clarity and intention. We'll explore ways to prioritize what matters most, setting boundaries, and living within a schedule that reflects both your academic responsibilities and your personal values. Registration is open now on the Time on Your Terms: Aligning Priorities with Purpose event page.

Navigating Difficult Conversations on Friday, October 10, 12-1pm. Navigating difficult conversations and resolving conflicts is an inevitable aspect of academic life. Whether it's a difference of opinion with an advisor, a PI, or a peer, or a more significant clash of vision and values, learning to speak up while preserving relationships is an essential life skill. In this workshop, we will talk about some basic principles of productive confrontation and how to apply them in your current context and beyond. Registration opens Sept 22 on the Navigating Difficult Conversations event page

Bounce Forward: Strategies for Resilience and Recovery on Monday, November 3, 3:30-4:30pm. No matter how well they are doing, grad students often feel like it’s never enough, and living with that kind of pressure can lead to burnout. While you may not be able to eliminate stress, you can increase your capacity to manage it more effectively. This workshop will explore how small, intentional habits can lead to meaningful progress, long-term success, and a sustainable approach to work and life. Registration opens on October 20 on the Bounce Forward: Strategies for Resilience and Recovery event page.
