Shobha Ramanand was born in 1952 in India. After a successful career in the Indian Civil Services, Shobha moved to Lansing, Michigan to pursue her Master’s and PhD at Michigan State University.
In 1988, she received her Master’s in Labor and Industrial Relations from the College of Social Science. She then earned her PhD in 1996 from the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, where she focused on Resource Development and Urban Studies. Thereafter, Shobha remained at MSU, pursuing a career as a researcher, teacher, grant writer and administrator. She passed on January 10, 2022 at the age of 69.
Dr. Ramanand’s intent for this fund was to honor her faculty mentors Dr. Kruger and Dr. Sweitzer by providing fellowship support to graduate students in the School of Human Resources and Labor Relations in the College of Social Science and the department of Community Sustainability in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

Enrolled graduate students in the School of Human Resources and Labor Relations in the College of Social Science or the department of Community Sustainability in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at Michigan State University are eligible.
Each fellowship recipient is required to express acceptance and appreciation of the award in writing within two weeks of notification of the award.
