Robert Coffey, Ph.D. serves as Assistant Director for International Admissions and Sponsored Student Recruitment Coordinator. In role, he identifies and recruits promising sponsored students to Michigan State; supports academic units regarding sponsored student recruitment opportunities; represents the University at admissions outreach events; and engages sponsor organizations with interest in sending students to MSU. Robert has worked for over twenty years across multiple functional areas in higher education administration, including conflict management; LGBTQ student services; residential life/housing; and undergraduate research. He has presented at academic, admissions, and practitioner conferences in Canada, China, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, the U.K., and the U.S. He also consults with government agencies, policy centers, and postsecondary institutions in the U.S. and Canada.
A graduate of Michigan State’s doctoral program in Higher, Adult, and Lifelong Education, Robert’s research investigated the experiences of international students who used an agent to assist with the postsecondary search process. He also holds an M.A. in History from the University of Maine; an M.P.A. from the University of New Hampshire; and a B.A. in Canadian Studies from the University of Vermont.
