In response to requests from a variety of departments, The Graduate School / Postdoc Office and the Academic Advancement Network are collaborating to offer a “Quick-Start” program for summer instructors (open to faculty, graduate students, postdocs). The purpose of this one-day program will be to provide an overview of policies and hands-on problem solving related to important issues including: accessibility of course materials, accommodations for person with disabilities, promoting student privacy & academic integrity, and promoting environments free of sexual discrimination and harassment. There will be breakout sessions on important issues related to an instructor’s role in supporting student mental health, engaging in difficult conversations about diversity and difference, and accessing and using digital technologies to enhance teaching. At the end of the day participants will be invited to attend the key-note address on student success as a part of another program - the student success data summit. PLEASE NOTE: these topics will also be covered in August as part of existing faculty teaching boot-camp and TA orientations. The Quick-Start is being held in response to requests from departments within which many new instructors teach for the first time each summer.
