The first part of the orientation is intended primarily for those new to their positions. It will provide an introduction to responsibilities of the role of the graduate program director, and information about the unique opportunities and challenges of the role through the views of current graduate program directors. The session will also highlight issues that typically come to the Graduate School office, with interactive discussions about how they might be handled at the department level, and how disciplinary differences impact the choices and options you might have in dealing with them.
The second part will be for all graduate program directors, including an update on programs for graduate students, and information about new offices, policies and programs this year. During a working lunch there will be an update on meeting the new RCR requirements, including resources and models that can be adapted for local use. See agenda below.
To register send your name, department, email address and an indication of which morning session you will attend and whether you will attend the lunch session to firstname.lastname@example.org no later than Friday, September 22.
