DF-Deferred Conditional Grades Fall 2007

The DF grade policy for graduate students was changed last year by the University Graduate Council and approved by Academic Council in April 2007.

For a DF-Deferred conditional grade for a course taken Fall 2007:  Work to complete this course must be done within six months (190 calendar days from the last class day of the term of instruction). If the required work is not completed, the DF will be changed to DF/U-Unfinished and the student will have to reenroll in the class if s/he wants to receive credit for the course.

Students may request a single six-month extension to complete a DF grade (so that the total length permitted to complete a DF grade is one year).  The faculty member will make the request via the Office of the Registrar (www.reg.msu.edu) under Faculty/Staff, select on-line forms. The faculty member must log in with their MSU NetID and password and select Administrative Actions. One of the options is for an extension of a conditional grade.

If a student received a DF-Deferred conditional grade Summer 2007 or earlier, s/he still has two calendar years to complete the work for that course.

Neither the six month nor the 2 year time limit applies to graduate thesis (899) or dissertation (999) courses, as indicated in Academic Programs: http://www.reg.msu.edu/UCC/AcademicPrograms.asp
