Creating a Teaching Philosophy: The Basics Thursday, May 1st 5:00 - 6:30 PM at the International Center Spartan Room C Writing a teaching philosophy is one of the most rewarding and, unfortunately, often one of the hardest tasks to complete. How many times have we sat down to pen an artful statement describing our roles as teachers only to end up slinking away from the computer, despairing over the difficulty of putting down often nebulous thoughts about an enterprise that is often hard to describe? How can we create that ultimately meaningful description of why we do what we do, how we do it, and how our approach reflects some deeper (dare we say, “unique?”) thinking about teaching? PostDoctoral Opportunities:Translating Academic Success into Expanded Career Opportunities in Agencies, Industry, Academia, and Non-Profit Organizations You have worked for years to learn the “tricks of the trade” of your discipline and the academy. How will those skills and your education help you negotiate jobs in government, in industry, in non-profit organizations and in administrative positions inside the university? What translates well and what will you have to adapt to new settings? This workshop is designed primarily for doctoral students who are considering traveling beyond the tenure-track or post doc route. Whether you are beginning your degree or about to complete it, what do you need to know before sending out a CV or resume? Additional Post Doc Programs/Opportunities You can find links to many other post doc opportunities at http://www.agep.us/postdoc.asp and http://www.igert.org/postdoc.asp.
